Attract Abundance, Conscious Living

Peace Before Abundance

I’ve been gratified by news about Singaporeans stepping up to help in spreading public awareness about the fugitive, Mas Selamat, at large. In my previous post on Cultivating Peaceful Thoughts, I wrote about how peace can be gained in little steps.

“It can start today when we learn to let go of our selfishness and biasness, and help our neighbours and friends, of different colors and races, with acts of love. Peace is the way for bulding a life and a world of much happiness and joy. “

Well, what is nice to report is that Singaporeans, known for their nonchalence towards politics, are making a stand. They do this by coming forward to help distribute flyers and volunteer on a personal basis, from the time the news was released about the escape of Singapore’s most wanted man from our Detention Centre here last week.

While there have been criticisms about the oversight by our Police Force by some members of the public, most people in general are not apportioning blame, at least not now. Their preoccupation is rightly placed: making sure that each and everyone of us can remember how he looks like, and to be alert should he appear.

With reference to the preoccupation of the average Singaporean on materialistic pursuits, I’ve got to admit that the community spirit, as demonstrated in the past few days, is a refreshing side; one of which I’ve not known before.

I’m reminded by the words from our Singapore Pledge. The Pledge was originally written in 1966 against the backdrop of racial riots in the 1950s and 1960s. My daugther, Hui, tells me that the taking of the Pledge is how she begins school every day; pretty much like how it was during my schooldays back then. Here is how the Singapore Pledge goes:

“We, the citizens of Singapore,
pledge ourselves as one united people,
regardless of race, language or religion,
to build a democratic society
based on justice and equality
so as to achieve happiness, prosperity and
progress for our nation.”

Clearly, there can be no abundance to speak of, if there is no peace. It is very much the same be it for the world, nation or individual. Progress and prosperity only takes place when a nation is not at war and there is a firm resolve to keep and maintain peace. And it all starts on an individual level.

“When you find peace within yourself, you become the kind of person who can live at peace with others.” — Peace Pilgrim (American Teacher and Spiritual leader and Peace Prophet, 1908-1981)

When you find peace within yourself, you accept yourself for who you are. You no longer chide yourself for the things that you fall short in. You no longer find it necessary to compete or compare against others unnecessarily. Your emotions no longer move like tidal waves (sometimes, in big violent rushes and sometimes calm and receding; but never predictable and hardly controllable). You are simply “I Am”.

With the peace that you are inside, you also move on to creating and establishing peaceful and stable relationships with your family, neighbours and friends. You send out positive energy vibrations in the name of love and tranquility; never conflict. As it is, You Become The Source of Creating Much Abundance Around.
