I am on this endeavor to help Min, my younger daugther, gain more self confidence in speaking up. So I apply whatever it is that I know that can possibly be of help, including targeting negative emotions, positive affirmations, subliminal messenging, etc. to the more conventional methods like getting her to act out in pretend shows that we put up.
While there is perhaps nothing wrong in being shy, I believe that it is important that she is able to ask for what she wants, without her Mummy’s help. She has no problems doing that at home, when she is in a comfortable environment. But in class or outside, her voice is barely audible in front of strangers or people she is not so familiar with.
Not learning to speak up, in spite of one’s shyness, can have an effect on school work and career prospects later on in life. Hasn’t it always been the case that the person who is not afraid to speak, ask or voice his own opinion in meetings get noticed more?
I believe that if I can put in more effort in helping her build her self confidence and self worth at an early age, I would also be able to help prevent a whole ton of problems later on. I’ve read far too many reports on teens becoming deliquent or teens developing problems like eating disorders. Most of these problems have their roots in emotional instability.
So here is Su Min…speaking up…..on her first public video….with plenty of encouragement…
If you have a youtube account, please give the video a vote to let her know your encouragement and support. When you give, the law of Universe will give that back to you many times over!
