My thoughts came fast and furious this morning after sleeping over Rich Schfren’s newly released Attention Age Doctrine Part 2, which I had read before I went to bed last night.
It is true that many of us suffer from attention deficit. Different media, people and various channels vie for our attention. Perhaps the lot that is suffering the most from being overworked and being hard pressed for time are internet marketers.
I have found my position to be especially hard. Although an online business is pretty much scalable, I have found it demanding in terms of time, effort and attention required. Unfortunately or fortunately, I also chose to be a WAHM who wants to be involved in many of my kids’ progress and development. My kids are seldom babysat. I spent a great deal of time playing, talking and doing kids activities with them.Â
With the various mayhem happening on the web (being held hostage with get-rich-quick sales talk one after another), actual business and family demands, I have felt overworked, stretched and leaking positive energy.
Yet at the same time, I refuse to give up my work on the web. I am passionate about what I do and am excited about the various opportunities that the web holds for me. It is the challenge and the mental stimulation that I need, other than playing with my kids.
My cohorts in the internet marketing world are in Joint Venture talks exploring business ideas all the time. Yes…I got to admit that I am tempted to be a marketer for a health product one day, a copywriter the next day, a traffic specialist three days later or an adsense expert the next week.
The possibilites are endless. The attraction of hitting a jackpot is alluring. I can even smell the roll of money in every deal that is discussed, brainstormed and tested.
Rich Schfren’s report confirmed what I already knew. I have to make a choice. I do not have the luxury of more than 3-4 hours per day on the web. In order to be the trusted expert in the field that I choose, I have to prioritise and pursue every single thread of knowledge required. I have to be a walking library of information and tools in that filed.
Â
So, here is where the insight lies for myself. It all boils down to focused awareness in choosing the field for being an expert on. It cannot be just any niche. In the field chosen, there must be meaning and purpose (Reference: Success Built To Last By Authors Jerry Porras, Stewart Emery and Mark Thompson). To be a true success, it is important to gain a deep understanding of who I am, my values, thoughts and beliefs. This is very similar to what Rich Schfren talked about; it is not what we do but what we are, to become a “maven”- an authoritative figure that others respect and look up to.
Hence, I have to know what I want to exemplify and how I want to impact others. This being the case, I am on the right track of learning and practising EFT, Silva, Enneagram, NLP, Alpha and Law of Attraction and a whole range of techniques designed to discover my psychology, to learn about mind control and eventually to manifest what I want.
It is not simply using keywords to choose a niche market anymore. It is about building a business with success built to last. It is about building a life that matters.
