The keys to successful programming, according to The Silva Method, is Desire, Belief and Expectancy. You must want things to happen in a positive way before any programming can occur. I got an early morning lesson today.
I woke up to a gloomy skies and on a start. There was already a light drizzle. I had to send my kids to school by 8 am as they had a school excursion to the park. “If the sky does not clear, you won’t be able to go to the park for the picnic”, I told my kids.
Still, I had to rush to make sure that they got there in time, just in case the excursion would still be on. On the way to their school, my eyes were constantly back at the sky. Knowing my kids, they have always loved outings and would be disappointed if any outing got cancelled. However, this drizzle can last the whole day, I thought. That was when I decided to teach my kids an easy technique from The Silva Method.
I asked them to bring their first three fingers together and believe that the sky will clear. Also, I asked them to visualize that they are in Bishan park, on a picnic mat and with the sun overhead. Hui, my elder daugther happily complied. She put her fingers together so tightly and for some time until she complained that her little fingers were tired. So I asked her to focus instead on the positive visualization.
Lo and behold, about 5-10 minutes later, the sun peaked out of some dark clouds. The rest of the sky was still gloomy. Hui then asked me why was it that the rest of the sky was still dark except for the patch with the sun peaking out.
I told her that it was because she did not want it badly enough and that she would have to continue to believe. That was when she said that “no, I don’t want it badly enough”. “Why not?” I asked. She did not give me an answer and by then, I had reached the carpark.
When we arrived at the classroom and in the nick of time, their teachers told me that the school excursion had been cancelled due to rain. Instead, they will be holding the picnic in the auditorium.
What a lesson it has been for me this morning! Obviously, there was not enough desire, belief and expectancy for things to turn out according to the outcome initially evisaged. Perhaps, my kids already knew that they would be having a good time anyway whether or not they got to Bishan Park or not. Still, it was fun to introduce the concepts of having “strong beliefs”, having “their dreams come true” and using The Silva Method to my kids.
